About the Journal
The Journal of Applied Artificial Intelligence in the Built Environment is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal focused on advancing research on AI applications in buildings, infrastructure, and the broader built environment. It publishes high-quality articles that explore innovative AI methods and their potential impact on practice and design.
The journal was established in response to the growing volume of AI-driven research related to the built environment that is often scattered across technically oriented Artificial Intelligence journals or embedded within broader construction and engineering publications. In many cases, this work is either presented at a level of technical detail that exceeds the needs of built-environment researchers or risks being overlooked among unrelated subject matter. The Journal of Applied Artificial Intelligence in the Built Environment addresses this gap by providing a focused, interdisciplinary venue where such contributions can be discovered, contextualized, and built upon.
In addition to serving the academic community, the journal seeks to encourage knowledge exchange between research and practice. By showcasing applied studies, case-based insights, and emerging ideas, the journal aims to support engagement with industry professionals, technology developers, and investors interested in translating AI-enabled research into real-world impact. In this way, the journal aspires to function not only as a publication outlet, but also as a catalyst for collaboration, innovation, and long-term value creation within the built environment sector. All published work is freely accessible under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license, ensuring broad dissemination and reuse.
